Our Cabinas
We have 4 cabinas for available for rent. Each cabina is approximately 300-400 square feet in size and offers one bedroom, one bathroom, kitchen and living/dining area. They are all located less than a mile from Playa Callejones, and are surrounded with lush vegetation including fruit trees such as banana, lime, mango and papaya.
There are two cabinas located on the same hectare of property as our house. These cabinas have hot water, refrigerator, gas cook top with propane, convection oven, fully furnished kitchen, ceiling fans, safe and air conditioning in the bedrooms. The property is covered in all sorts of trees that howler monkeys seem to love, so you are very likely to see troops moving through in the early morning and late afternoon. The cabinas and the property are both safe and secure, located inside the fence and gates and protected by our wonderful dogs, Zac, Lusi and Chachi.
A third cabina is located just next door to our house, on an adjoining property. It also has hot water, refrigerator, stove/oven, ceiling fans and a fully furnished kitchen. There is no air conditioning in this cabina, but it is not necessary due to the trees that surround the cabina. It has a private driveway and the large property is fenced entirely. Our dogs are also happy to protect this property! :)
The fourth cabina we have available is located a short walk from our property, about 100 yards as the crow flies. It is very secluded and private, and slightly larger than the other three cabinas. It offers refrigerator, cook top, ceiling fans, dining area and large lot. It is also surrounded by trees and vacant land, and we have even seen howler monkeys walking on the ground (rarely seen) in this quiet area. This cabina does not offer air conditioning, but it is very open and airy and not needed.
Our quiet neighborhood is very close to Restaurant Bar Latina, a local favorite of Ticos and expats alike. They serve great typical Costa Rican food at very inexpensive prices, and the beer is always cold. We are also within walking distance from a small grocery store that offers all the basics, plus some produce and frozen meats. In the town of Playa Negra, about a mile away, there are several good restaurants, ranging from pizza to traditional Peruvian food to fine French cuisine. Head the other direction from Playa Negra towards Playa Junquillal and there are several more restaurants and bars, including Bernardo's Beach Bar, a favorite spot for watching the sunset...a local tradition!

Our Location

We live in the province of Guanacaste, on the northern Pacific coast of the Nicoya peninsula. This region of Costa Rica is more arid than areas further south (although we get our fair share of rain), and is known for its cattle, cowboys and rodeos. The closest airport is Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, which offers daily flights on Continental, Delta, United, Frontier, and American airlines. It is approximately an hour and fifteen minute drive from the airport to the cabinas, all but the last two miles on paved roads.
The cabinas are located just outside of a town called Paraiso -- which you probably won't find on a map! It is an easy walk or drive to the beach from the cabinas, down a (mostly) shaded, quiet dirt road. The closest beach, located at the end of the road less than a mile from the cabinas, is called Playa Callejones. It is a lava reef beach, ideal for snorkeling or surfing. Often the beach is deserted, but if you do share it with others it is likely just a handful of locals. This is definitely not a tourist spot! As the tide goes out, tidepools perfect for soaking and sunbathing reveal themselves all along the reef, some big enough for two! :) Head north on the beach and you will find a soft sandy area without any reef, perfect for swimming or surfing lessons. Head a little further north on the beach and you will find Playa Negra, an epic right-hand reef/point break. Very consistent and powerful, it is known as one of the best surf breaks in Costa Rica. Other nearby beaches are Playa Venado, Playa Junquillal, Playa Blanca, and Playa Avellanas. Each offer long stretches of deserted beach, beautiful sunsets and warm inviting water.
There are no stoplights, police, or nightclubs in our little town. There are a few consistently good restaurants nearby, as well as a couple of grocery stores for staples and beer. If it's nightlife you seek, you can find all you want in Tamarindo, just 30 minutes away. However if you are looking for someplace off the beaten path, with abundant wildlife, fresh fish and tropical fruit, where the beaches are uncrowded, the people are friendly, and the sunsets are picture perfect, you will love our little piece of tropical paradise!
